| As we have stated here at
Silver State News Service, one of our purposes in life is
to prove or disprove rumors, allegations, theories,
myths, speculation, et al. SSNS is therefore creating a
section specifically for that purpose where we can list
the myths that we hear or receive, put them in print
online for examination and analysis, then prove or
disprove these reports as newsworthy or bunk. This section is interactive, therefore, if you -- our readers -- have heard anything of interest or have corroborating information to confirm these reports, or information that disputes these reports, please feel free to contact us at: Rumors presented to us will be placed in an "open" status until proven or disproved; in "abeyance" if no decision can be made; or "closed" when the status of these rumors is finally and positively determined. The purpose of bringing these rumors to life is to obtain clarification and or verification, true or false, admission or denial, so that the public is ultimately informed of and receives the truth. |

Air Racing in
Mesquite? Open as of 12/11/2003 "Found your article interesting...a man standing next to me stated that 'that wasn't a race - it was a parade!' You did not mention the 'Mesquite Project' in your article Their website indicated a super-sized airport and international airshow and air races in 2005 -- later changed to 2006. WOW was a major backer of this airfield -- in fact I found out about it from a link at their website. Has this been abandoned? This new airport would be far superior to trying to fix the dirt strip at Jean." -- Bill Quinn Salt Lake City, Utah |

Rumor: Grand Theft
Air Races? In Depth Link Above -- In Brief Link Below Our sources (multiple) indicate that this is the last year for the Reno "Invitational" National Championship Air Races, as they will be moved within the next two years to Jean, Nevada, 25 miles south of Las Vegas. Considered a "poorly kept secret" rather than a rumor. If true, the City of Reno and its volunteers stand to be severely hurt. STATUS: Open as of 11/19/2003 In Brief (Four Pages -- Reduced Verbiage) |
