SSNS Columnist Rick Pisio's shot of the Collings Foundation Consolidated B-24J Liberator, "Witchcraft," over the Sacramento Delta during the annual Memorial Day visit to Concord, California. Rick was Air-to-Air with the B-24, the B-17 "Nine-O-Nine," and the North American B-25J Mitchell, for the aerial photo shoot. Many thanks to Ken Dwelle of the Critical Mass Air Racing Team for providing piloting and AT-6 trainer, and to Rob Collings, for providing the three, historic, WWII aircraft for this rare, photo opportunity.

Embellished:

  • To make beautiful, as by ornamentation; decorate.
  • To add ornamental or fictitious details to: a fanciful account that embellishes the true story.

    • Exaggerated:

    • To represent as greater than is actually the case; overstate: exaggerate the size of the enemy force; exaggerated his own role in the episode.

    Fraud:

    End of an Era

    Lockheed's famed C-141 Starlifter transport has begun its transition into history as its age and efficiency are now diminised over time, and more reliable transports like the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III and the latest Lockheed C-5B Galaxy upgrades make the Starlifter no long necessary in the US Military Airlift Command fleet. Starlifters are now being delivered to Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona, near Tucson, where the elegant cargo plane will now meet the scrapper's guillotine. A handful of the aircraft will be preserved in museums, but it's unlikely that any will be maintained in flying condition.
