A British Airtours Lockheed L-1011 TriStar arrives in Los Angeles after a flight from England. British Airways was the parent company of this IT Charter outfit and also a TriStar and TriStar 500 operator. Of 200 TriStars built, only 40 L-1011s are currently in service worldwide. A number of others have the scrappers torch.


Paul Poberezny, the founder of the EAA and one of the founders of its oldest Chapter, EAA Chapter 1, and Flabob Airport, California, near Riverside, was on site at Flabob for the arrival of the "Spirit of St. Louis" replica and its Stinson chase aircraft during the 50th Anniversary Tour in 1977.


Looking much like the Spirit of St. Louis did the day after its arrival at leBourget, near Paris, the Spirit of St. Louis replica is seen here outside the Great Pacific & Atlantic Aeroplane Company hangar at Van Nuys Airport, Van Nuys, California, the day following its arrival on the 50th Anniversary Tour commemorating the first Solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean by Charles A.
