| Lyle Shelton's take off run for qualification at the 1976 California National Air Races at Mojave, California. Fresh from paint, the aircraft would belly land after this takeoff putting Shelton out of Air Racing for the next few years. The aircraft now known as Rare Bear, was campaigned as "The Spirit of '77," Race 77. the three-toned purple paint scheme was designed by Artist Virgil Austin, who painted the beautiful mural at USARA's Van Nuys, California, headquarters, in the late 1970s. |
